I’m super interested in joining your team as your Digital Director! I’m a solutions-oriented, flexible, and experienced graphic designer with a passion for digital strategy, the Adobe Suite, and progressive messaging. I’ve worked in a variety of digital and editorial design roles, and I’ve been as comfortable working at a DC-based thinktank as at a corporate airline as leading a design team for a college newspaper. My whole portfolio is viewable at www.shanaoshinskie.com, but I’ve distilled a few of the most relevant examples of my work below for your consideration.
In my current role at as a graphic designer for an action fund, I have spent time studying the gap in digital performance between Republicans and Democrats, the complexity of social media algorithms, and the importance of analytics in building successful digital programs. Each week, I build all the graphics for What’s Trending, which takes a birds-eye look at the political social media ecosystem and distills suggestions for what types of content and topics are performing well. You can take a look at those here. I have firsthand knowledge of how critical understanding algorithms, trends, and analytics are to creating a successful digital program.
I thrive when finding ways to make current events and policy accessible and shareable online. I produce several graphics a week across our three channels for 1.7 million followers, and I have experience designing, animating, illustrating, drafting copy, editing, and proofing content. I have robust software knowledge, and am comfortable in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, AfterEffects, Premiere, Audition, Lightroom and XD. I am also comfortable shooting video and photos on DSLR cameras and phones, as well as editing.
My graphics have been posted by Hillary Clinton, Cory Booker, Nancy Pelosi, and Chris Murphy, and shared by many other representatives, progressive influencers, and regular people!
I understand the separate niches and audiences of each channel and their specifications. I spearheaded the creation of our Instagram channels, establishing a brand that’s young, cohesive, and welcoming. Below, I’ve condensed a few examples of work I’ve produced for our channels.
And I can also help you with motion graphics and video as well. Here are two recent animation examples I’ve made, but I’m also comfortable shooting and editing camera video as well.
The purview of my current role looks primarily at still graphic production, but I’m constantly pitching new angles, styles, and formats that I think we should try. One of my recent unusual ideas was baking and decorating a cake with our messaging, which significantly over-performed on all three of our channels. I wrote the copy, then baked, frosted, and photographed the cake!
I know that a digital program means a lot more than just social channels, and I’m excited to work on the email program and the website as well. I’ve worked closely with our email team and understand the unique constraints and benefits of email software, A/B testing subject lines, and more. I have basic coding knowledge and strong writing skills, and am comfortable taking on a range of responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
I’m also familiar with building one-pagers, iconography, workbooks, and invitation templates from my roles at Southwest Airlines. Here are two quick examples, but you can see more of that work here.
I’m passionate about the policies that Sen. Hickenlooper champions, his inspiring and diverse political and personal history, and the digital presence he’s already built (I initially saw the For the People banjo video a few months ago and have been hooked ever since). It would be an honor to join the team and be able to contribute to the incredible work already being produced. I’m confident I would add a creative, positive, hardworking voice to the team.
Thanks so much for the opportunity to apply! If you’re interested in getting touch, you can reach me at my email, shana.oshin@gmail.com
