Or to whom it may concern… I’m super interested in working as a graphic designer for The Financial Diet! I’m a solutions-oriented, flexible, and experienced graphic designer with a passion for the work that TFD does. I’ve worked in a variety of digital and editorial design roles, and I’ve been as comfortable working at a DC-based thinktank as at a corporate airline as leading a design team for a college newspaper. My whole portfolio is viewable at www.shanaoshinskie.com, but I’ve distilled a few of the most relevant examples of my work below for your consideration.
In my current role at as a graphic designer for a thinktank, I thrive when transforming dense, complex spreadsheets into digestible, simple graphics. The below graphics are examples of my work for What’s Trending, a weekly newsletter that tracks trends in progressive and conservative social media.
Beyond What’s Trending, a lot of work I do for CAP involves finding ways to make current events and dense policy accessible and shareable to a broad audience. In this role, I’ve also spearheaded the creation of our Instagram channels, establishing a brand that’s young, cohesive, and welcoming.
Across CAP Action’s three channels, I design for a combined audience of 1.7 million followers, and am familiar creating wide-ranging content for an established brand. I admire TFD’s channels because they seek to distill relevant, practical information in understandable, beautiful formats. This is a space in which I’ve thrived as a designer, and would love to continue to grow.
One thing that appealed to me about this job description was the way that it encompassed a variety of deliverables, social and otherwise. In my time at CAP, Southwest Airlines, and leading the design team for The Crimson White, I’ve gotten comfortable adapting to fit the needs of a given team, and am as comfortable illustrating in Photoshop as I am designing editorial layouts for newspapers in InDesign as I am making clean pitch decks in Illustrator.
Below, I’ve included a few slides from some of my pitch decks for CAP VIPs.
But I’m also familiar with building one-pagers, iconography, workbooks, and invitation templates from my roles at Southwest Airlines. Here are two quick examples, but you can see more of that work here.
And I can also produce eye-catching meta images, gifs, YouTube thumbnails, and more.
Below, I’ve included a social media motion graphic that I made for Monarch Espresso Bar, a coffee shop that I freelanced for. I’m always excited about trying new mediums and adjusting content to fit the message as closely as possible.
This year, I’ve started my own journey with getting more in control of my relationship to money, and blogs like TFD have been a huge part of getting me there. I love the idea of women honestly and openly discussing their finances, and I want to be a part of a team that’s helping to make that happen.
In my personal life, I geek out for good budgeting spreadsheets and creatively visualize my own savings goals to track my progress. It would be a tremendous honor to get to work alongside a team that’s trying to help women everywhere get more in touch with their finances.
Thanks so much for the opportunity to apply! If you’re interested in getting touch, you can reach me at my email, shana.oshin@gmail.com
